Margaret Ruth Cook Byrd, 93, of Spartanburg, SC, died Sunday, October 16, 2016, at her home. Born March 21, 1923, in Spartanburg County, SC, she was the daughter of the late Dewey and Minnie Etter Bryant Cook and widow of Paul Byrd. Mrs. Byrd retired as a cartographer with the USDA Soil Conservation Service in Spartanburg. Later, she retired from Spartanburg County Schools as a dietician with Lone Oak Elementary School. She was a member of St. James United Methodist Church where she also served as a Sunday School teacher and was formerly a member at Gravely Memorial United Methodist Church. Survivors include her sons, Chris Vinyard (Pam) of Inman, SC and Terry Vinyard (Suzy) of Loudon, TN; grandchildren, Anna Vinyard of Spartanburg, SC, Abby Vinyard of New Bern, NC, Devon Vinyard Dickson and Chad Vinyard, both of Murfreesboro, TN; 4 great-grandchildren; sisters, Geraldine Ellison of Hartsville, SC and Loree Hodge of Pacolet Mills, SC; 11 nephews; and 8 nieces. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by sisters, Betty Jo Howell and Vera Petty; and brothers, Foy Cook, Houston "Boots" Cook, and Harold Dean Cook. The family will receive friends 4:00-7:00 PM Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at the home. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:30 AM Wednesday, October 19, 2016, in Pacolet Memorial Gardens, 141 Memorial Dr., Pacolet, SC 29372, by the Rev. J. Wayne Smith, Jr. and Mr. Gary Ellison.
