Margaret Thrift Burnett, 89, of Spartanburg, SC died Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at National Health Care in Greer, SC. Born March 28, 1933 in Beech Springs Community of Spartanburg County, she was the daughter of the late James and Carrie Geattes Thrift, and wife of the late John James “Jack” Burnett III for 48 years.
Margaret was a graduate of Spartanburg Junior College where she played basketball for the Lady Pioneers. She was a longtime banking employee with Spartanburg Bank and Trust, as well as its successors, and was co-owner and operator of the College Motor Inn for close to 20 years. Margaret was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Spartanburg and a faithful volunteer at Mary Black Memorial Hospital for many years.
Survivors include her daughters, Annie Leila Burnett Moore of Taylors, SC and Margaret Elizabeth McGrath (Steven) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; Seven grandchildren; Six great-grandchildren; and sister, Betty Gilliam of Fairforest, SC. Margaret is predeceased by her daughter, Jamie Burnett White; son-in-law, Charles Moore and sister, Julie Lawrence.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, November 27, 2022 at Oakwood Cemetery, 184 Oakwood Ave., Spartanburg, SC 29302, conducted by the Rev. Joann R. Hull.
