Margaret Kilner "Cindy" Baker, 74, of Spartanburg, SC, died December 15, 2020, at Spartanburg Medical Center. She was the beloved wife of Douglas Brian Baker. Nicknamed Cindy by her father, she was the epitome of friendship for many. She was the first person to knock on the door when someone was ill or troubled and did not restrict her friendship to those who might need her help. She loved to plan weekend adventures and travel to new places. Cindy and the late Lark Gaskins were lifelong friends, from crib babies in Tallahassee, to spending much of their time together as adults in Spartanburg. Cindy also adored her book club friends and her early morning walking group. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the Emmaus Sunday School Class. She and Doug loved being grandparents to 13 year old twins Andrew and Lauren. They enjoyed their frequent trips over the mountain to Abingdon, VA, to cheer them on at their school and sporting events. Born February 11, 1946, in Thomasville, GA, Cindy was the daughter of the late George and Mabel Teague Kilner. She grew up in Tallahassee, FL, among many cousins and friends and loved spending time with family on the Gulf Coast. Her favorite meal was the Apalachicola Spaghetti that was always a family favorite. She attended Queens College, graduated from Brenau College and earned a Master's degree from Francis Marion University. She taught at Thomas Hart Academy and at Pine Street Elementary School. Surviving, in addition to her husband of 50 years, are son Brian Baker and wife Brook and grandchildren Andrew and Lauren Baker of Abingdon; sister, Kitty Angleman and brother in law Dr. Harry Harper, both of Augusta, GA; sister in law Cynthia Baker of Fairfield, CA; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews throughout GA and FL. She was predeceased by a daughter, Kimberly Adams Baker and sister, Merry Harper. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 16, 2021, at First Presbyterian Church, 393 E.
