Mancel George

Mancel William George, 86, of 230 Augusta Road, died Saturday, November 21, 2009, at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born April 10, 1923, in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late Broadus George and Maybell Marlowe George and the husband of 68 years to Virginia Mae Harelson. He was previously employed by Southern Railroad, was of the Baptist faith, and a member of the Masons for several years. Along with his wife, survivors include two daughters, Peggy G. Horton of Spartanburg, and Shirley Joyce Wirkus of Taylors; a son, Ronnie William of Spartanburg; a sister, Evelyn Knox of Inman; a brother Fred George and wife Annie Ruth; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two brothers, Lester George and Winfred George. Visitation will be 1:00-1:45 p.m. Tuesday, November 24, 2009, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel conducted by the Rev. Andy Case. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
