Mamie Davis

Mamie Cooksey Davis, 96, of Spartanburg, SC, died Tuesday, July 28, 2015, at White Oak Estates. Born December 26, 1918, in Spartanburg County, she was the daughter of the late Eber Dexter and Mary Elizabeth Waldrop Cooksey and widow of the late Claude Lamar Davis Sr. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Mrs. Davis was a wonderful cook who did not have a green thumb, but a green arm when it came to gardening receiving the "Yard of the Month" many times. She was a member of Cannons Campground United Methodist Church where she was a former senior choir member for many years, secretary/treasurer of the Mary Collins Sunday School Class and the Golden Girls Club. Survivors include her son, C. L. (Chuck) Davis, Jr. (Mildred) of Cowpens, SC; grandchildren, Meghan Zuercher (Brian), Nicole Bradley (Stephen) and Lynn Keller all of Spartanburg, SC, R. Bryan Davis (Tammy) of Cowpens, SC and Robin Davis (Ashley) of Bluffton, SC; daughter-in-laws, Nancy T. Davis and Nancy M. Davis, both of Spartanburg, SC; 11 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two sons, Johnny Davis and Robert W. Davis. Visitation will be held from 1:30 to 2:45 PM on Friday, July 31, 2015, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307, with services following at 3:00 PM in the Chapel conducted by the Rev. Mac Kinnett and the Rev. Kenneth Bobo. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cannons Campground United Methodist Church Building Fund, 3450 Cannons Camp Ground Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307 or Hospice Care of South Carolina, 110 Dillon Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
