Maloy Rash Jr.

Maloy Ray Rash Jr., 93, of Greenville, SC peacefully passed away during the early hours of Monday, October 17, 2016 at Cascades Verdae. Born November 10, 1922 in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late Maloy Ray Rash Sr. and Leila Correll Rash. An Officer and Pilot of U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, Maloy earned two sets of Pilot Wings: US and British Royal Air Force. Maloy was chosen to train British pilots for air combat at Riddle Field in Florida following an urgent plea for help from British Prime Minister Winston Churchill. Maloy received his Bachelor's Degree from Wofford College and spent many wonderful years as a Retail Executive with Ivey's Department Stores. During the 1960's, 70's and 80's Maloy moved throughout South Carolina, North Carolina, and Florida expanding the business by opening new stores. He retired as President of Ivey's (now known as Dillards) and moved to Asheville, NC with his wife, Joey. Maloy Rash was an amazing, kind man. A true Gentleman that cared deeply for his family, friends, employees, and community. He was actively involved, always serving on numerous boards and volunteer projects to help develop and improve his community and his church. A natural leader, a positive encouraging man of strong faith that never met a stranger, Maloy touched the lives of everyone he knew and loved. Maloy spent 62 beautiful years with his loving wife, Josephine. Together, they raised their granddaughter, Deborah Dennis. Later in life, they extended their love, guidance, and support to their great-granddaughter Lindsay, who Maloy has called "The love of his life" for all of her 23 years. Maloy will be deeply missed by the many people who knew and loved him. May your heavy hearts be lifted with the joy of knowing Maloy is with his Heavenly Father, Our Lord. Survivors include a granddaughter, Deborah Correll Dennis and her husband Mark; and a great-granddaughter, Lindsay Dennis Pashia and her husband Colin, all of Greenville, S.C. In addition to his parents, he was pre deceased by his wife, Josephine K. Rash in 2007 and daughter, Penny Rash Holcombe in 1995. A "Celebration of Life" service will be held Monday November 7, 2016 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at Cascades Verdae, 10 Fountainview Terrace, Greenville, SC 29607. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307.
