Malcolm Lawter

December 25, 1937 — March 5, 2015

Malcolm Charles Lawter, 77, of Spartanburg, SC, died Thursday, March 5, 2015, at Mary Black Memorial Hospital. Born December 25, 1937, in Spartanburg County, he was the son of the late N. B. and Pearl Donahoo Lawter. He was married for over 54 years to the late Alma Juanita Ward Lawter. Mr. Lawter was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who loved to fish. Malcolm was very outgoing and never met a stranger and was a friend to all. A veteran of the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, he retired from Community Cash Stores after 30 years of service as Assistant Store Manager. He was also a member of North Spartanburg Freewill Baptist Church. Survivors include his sons, Robert C. Lawter (Patricia) of Chesnee, SC, and David C. Lawter (Jennifer) of Waterloo, SC; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Catherine Hickman of Spartanburg, SC; and brother, Carroll Lawter of Spartanburg, SC. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by a son, Malcolm Charles Lawter, Jr. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Saturday, March 7, 2015, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday, March 8, 2015, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, by the Rev. Mitch Edge. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Pallbearers are Chuck Sosbee, James Cox, Houston Rowell, Ken McAbee, Bobby Trotter, and Barry Hickman.
