James Doster, 80, of Cowpens, SC, died at his home on the evening of Saturday, April 9, 2016, after a courageous battle with cancer. A native of Shelby, NC, he was born October 20, 1935, a son of the late Leonard Crowell and Evelyn Louise O'Toole Doster. James had a distinguished career as a jet pilot and officer in the United States Air Force flying over 100 missions in the Vietnam War. In his retirement, he co-operated an air charter service, launched a successful hovercraft business in Maine, became a licensed real estate broker, and was a part-owner and manager of the Beaver Dam Auto Auction in Shelby, NC. James is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Gail Conway Doster; his loving children, Mary Doster, James Doster and his wife Cindy, Greta and her husband Kevin McCormack, Andrea Doster, and Lori Bell Whicker; grandchildren, Molly, Brett, John, Angeline, Emily and her husband Tony Foley, Karly, and Mally, all adored him as did his great-grandchildren, including Max and Tessa Foley. A private service celebrating his life will be held for his family on Saturday, April 16, 2016.
