Maggie Elizabeth "Miss Lib" Whitlock, 78, of Inman, died Monday, March 30, 2009, at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born May 11, 1930, in Cherokee County, SC, she was the daughter of the late Cline G. and Annie Mae Fowler Phillips and the wife of the late John McCoy Whitlock. She was the retired owner and operator of Towne & Country Styling Salon, a member of Temple Baptist Church of Gaffney, and past president of the VFW Women's Auxiliary of Spartanburg. Miss Lib loved her family, enjoyed fishing, boating, and helping her son-in-law, Joe, at his restaurant. Survivors include two daughters, Dianne Crook (Joe) of Spartanburg, and Mary Vasiloff (Bruce) of Findlay, OH; a son, Wayne Phillips (Anne) of Gaffney; two sisters, Mary Ellen Wallace of Gaffney, and Dorothy Martin of Spartanburg; and a very special friend, James "Jimmy" Brice of Cross Anchor. She was a loving Nannie to six grandchildren, Libby Gursky (Mike) of Lincolnton, NC, Douglas Phillips (Tammy) and Laurie Pruitt (Billy) of Gaffney, Jennifer Bauer (Jason) of Spartanburg, Jonathan Young and Joseph Vasiloff of Findlay, OH; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Patricia Ligon; and four brothers, Curtis, Lewis, Wallace, and Olin Phillips. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon Wednesday, April 1, 2009, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel conducted by the Rev. Holly Irvin and the Rev. Scott Kierstead. Visitation will follow the service at the Chapel. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Temple Baptist Church, 1508 Cherokee Avenue, Gaffney, SC 29340; or to the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, 686 Jeff Davis Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
