Mae King

Mae Peace King, 95, of Spartanburg, SC passed away December 3, 2022 at Ashlan Village Assisted Living in Lyman, SC. Born October 19, 1927 in Shelby, NC, she was the daughter of the late Alonzo Jessie and Gracie Louisa Peace.

Mrs. King loved to travel; her mother often joked that her middle name was “Go”. She worked for many years as a legal secretary, including for the Judge Bruce Littlejohn. She was an avid photographer; she took her camera with her everywhere she went. Mrs. King also loved to sew and make clothes for her family.

Survivors include her husband of 74 years, Arnold Talmadge King; sons, Rev. Steven King (Rev. Sandra) of Greenville, SC and Stanley King (Pam) of Union, SC; son-in-law, Chick Gosnell; grandchildren, Melissa Suddeth (Paul), Michael Hammond (Camille), Jodie Gosnell (Sabastian), Lisa Overbay (Michael), Devin King (Caitlin), and Ashelyn King; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Blanche Craven (Luke) of Moore. She was predeceased by her daughters, Rev. Linda Gosnell and Carolyn Lawter; son, Larry King; son-in-law, Gary Lawter; siblings, Theron Peace (Wynetta), Thelma Scruggs (Jonas), Paul Peace (Frances).

Visitation will be 1:00 – 1:45 PM on Thursday, December 8, 2022 at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 842 Mount Zion Road, Spartanburg, SC 29303. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM in the church, conducted by the Rev. Rob Gouge and the Rev. Monty King. Committal service will follow in Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials my be made to Mount Zion Baptist Church, 842 Mount Zion Road, Spartanburg, SC 29303, Ashlan Village, 415 Brenda Way, Lyman, SC 29365, or Interim Hospice, 100 Verdae Boulevard Suite 300, Greenville, SC 29607.
