"Mack" Mcmakin

Clarence Garvin "Mack" McMakin, Sr., 84, died Thursday, April 7, 2011 at Mary Black Memorial Hospital. Born April 24, 1926, in Spartanburg, he was the son of the late Charles Harold McMakin, Sr. and Annie Bell McMakin; and husband, for 54 years, of the late Mamie Hall McMakin. Mr. McMakin retired from Piedmont Natural Gas Company after 38 years of service as construction supervisor. He was a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II. A member of St. Johns Masonic Lodge #333, for over 50 years, he served as Master of the Lodge in 1976. He was also a member of Hejaz Shrine Temple, a charter member of Three Pines Golf Course in Woodruff, and a member of Buck Creek Baptist Church in Chesnee. Survivors include his son, Clarence Garvin McMakin, Jr. and his wife Catherine Wolfe McMakin; two granddaughters, Shannon McMakin Griffith and her husband W. Jason Griffith of Greenville; and Christine Elizabeth McMakin of Spartanburg; one great-grandson, William Garvin "Liam" Griffith; and a sister, Emmalene McMakin Hughes of Columbia. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a brother, Commander Charles Harold McMakin, Jr. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, April 9, 2011 in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Britt Dillard. Visitation will follow at the graveside. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Spartanburg Media Ministry, 250 E.
