Lyster Mcmillan, Jr.

Lyster Brooks McMillan, Jr., 86, of Spartanburg, passed into the presence of his Heavenly Father on Friday, December 19, 2014 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. He was born on July 12, 1928 in Greenville, SC to the late Lyster Brooks McMillan, Sr. and Leafy Clifton (Long) McMillan. He was the loving and faithful husband of Rachel Ford McMillan for 63 years. Mr. McMillan graduated from Spartanburg High School in 1947 and served in Korea as a combat platoon sergeant with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He was also retired from the U.S.D.A., cartographic division of the Soil Conservation Service, as well as being employed with Xylographics, Inc., Shelby, NC in the photographic design unit. Mr. McMillan was a kind, humble gentleman-husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He found joy through his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and the Word of God despite physical suffering for many years. He was a member of Spartanburg First Baptist Church, and served several churches over the years as a deacon, usher, and Sunday School teacher. He fought a good fight and has attained his eternal reward. Survivors include his loving wife, Rachel Ann Ford McMillan, sons, Lyster Brooks (Nancy) McMillan, III of Roebuck, John Allen (Cindy) McMillan of Salisbury, NC; grandchildren, Cole McMillan, Daniel McMillan, Kevin (Jessica) McMillan, Andrew (Lainey) McMillan, Leslie (Aaron) White; brother, Clifton (Alice) McMillan of Chapin, SC. He is also survived by an extended loving family. He was predeceased by a daughter, Yvonne Ford McMillan and a sister, Mary McMillan Lutz. Visitation will be 11:30 AM - 12:45 PM Monday, December 22, 2014 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM in The Chapel. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307 by the Rev. Dr. Donald Wilton and the Rev. Bob Neely. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Encouraging Word or Dr. John Wilton Sunday School Class, First Baptist Church of Spartanburg, 250 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306.
