After a much too long struggle with Alzheimer's Disease, heaven accepted another angel Monday when Lynn McKown Hicks was called home. Lynnieboo, as she was called by her family friends, was the epitome of a Southern lady. She was a gracious gentle person who never spoke ill of anyone, looked on all as a friend, and never distressed in adversity. She loved cooking, entertaining, fall leaves, snowmen, Christmas lights, and spending time with family.
She started college at Limestone College and graduated from Marjorie Webster College in Washington DC. She worked briefly with primary children in special education with the Montessori training she received there. Her family was the thing she cherished most. They leaned and depended on her in small and big ways, and she always went above and beyond. She also worked in support of her family at her husband’s veterinary practice, Amelia Island Veterinary Clinic.
Lynn was predeceased by her father, Robert F. McKown, mother, Mary Alice Pickens, sister, Mary Alice Chandler and her dear maternal grandparents, R.O. Pickens Sr. and Mary Melissa Pickens with whom she shared a special bond.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years James E. Hicks Jr., daughter, Melissa (Keith) Hurwitz, son, James Hicks III (Karen), son, Rob (Kim) and five grandchildren Clay, Lulu, Everett, Grady, and Redding, several nieces and nephews, close friends, Diane Cobb and Hazel Willis, and the members of bridge and garden clubs.
