Lynda Broome McLane, 75, of Spartanburg, SC was a beloved wife, mother and retired schoolteacher whose career spanned 45 years, died unexpectedly the evening of October 7, 2021 in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Born February 12, 1946 in Lancaster, SC she was the daughter of the late LD and Lena Grace Broome.
Lynda was a graduate of Abbeville High School and earned her Bachelor of Science at Winthrop College, and her Master of Education at Converse University, formerly known as Converse College.
Her love of children was unbounded by her dedication to her profession. She began and continued her teaching craft at the elementary level and she later specialized in the Reading Recovery Program for children with reading difficulty.
Lynda spent the remainder of her career providing her expertise to achieve improved reading performance for her young students. She was renowned for the results by grateful parents and colleagues. Over her retirement years, she tutored children who were referred to her from the reputation developed by her students’ improved learning.
Survivors include her husband of over 50 years, SGM (R) Foster B. McLane III, daughter, Jenifer “Jeni” Grace McLane Barrantes and husband Pablo, son, James Gregory “Greg” McLane, brother, William L. “Buddy” Broome, and wife Kathye, sister, Nancy Best Hedden and husband, Jerry, four grandchildren, Elena Barrantes, Lucas Barrantes, Emerson McLane and Bentley McLane. Along with her parents, she is also predeceased by a brother, LD Broome, III.
A Visitation will be 1:00 – 2:45 PM Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. A Celebration of Life service will be at 3:00 PM, at the chapel, conducted by The Rev. Steve Wise, The Rev. Matt Johnson, Mrs. Jeni McLane, Miss Elena Barrantes McLane, and Mrs. Nancy Hedden.
The family will be at the home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fernwood Baptist Church Children’s Ministry, 200 Fernwood Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307 or to Pine Street School Reading Scholarship, in memory of Mrs. Lynda McLane.
