Luther Mcelveen

Luther Ray Wright McElveen, 92, of Spartanburg, died Thursday, March 3, 2011, at Skylyn Place. Born July 19, 1918 in Campobello, SC, she was the daughter of the late Dogan Humphrey and Sarah Kelly Wright and wife of the late Harry Lamar McElveen. A graduate of Spartanburg General Hospital School of Nursing, she was a nurse at the Veterans Hospital in Augusta, GA for more than 35 years. She was a member of Reidville Road United Methodist Church. Survivors include three sisters, Edith McAlister and Martha Shiltz of Spartanburg, and Willyene Shields of Green Creek, NC; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Malcolm Wright and D. H. Wright, Jr.; and a sister, Lois Underwood. Funeral services will be held at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, March 6, 2011 at Reidville Road United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. James Ellis Griffith. Visitation will follow the service at the church. Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 7, 2011 in Bellevue Memorial Gardens, Augusta, GA. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Reidville Road United Methodist Church, 5575 Reidville Road, Moore, SC 29369. The family is at their respective homes.
