Luther "Papa Luke" McDaniel Fortner, 83, of Spartanburg, died Monday, March 4, 2013, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born August 18, 1929, in the North Pacolet Community of Spartanburg County, he was the son of the late Clarence M. and Guynell Jones Fortner. A U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War, Mr. Fortner was a retired quality control technician with Powdercraft Corporation and later worked for Car Quest Auto Parts. He was a member of Fairforest Baptist Church and the Milbra Higgins Sunday School Class. He loved being a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and watching the Atlanta Braves. Survivors include his loving wife, Jane Mason Fortner; daughter, Lynn F. Waddell (Allan) of Spartanburg; son, Todd Fortner of Greenville; grandsons, Jason Cantrell, Josh Fortner, and Brandon Waddell; great-grandchildren, Eli, Mason, and Kynlee; and his special canine companion, Cricket. He was predeceased by a daughter, Deborah J. Fortner; brother, Larry C. Fortner; and daughter-in-law, Laurie T. Fortner. Visitation will be 12:30-1:45 PM Thursday, March 7, 2013, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM, at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Brent Dowis and the Rev. Kermit Morris. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
