A graveside service to celebrate the life of Lunelle Reeves Cox Comer will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, January 15, 2012, at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, conducted by Pastor Barry Snead. The family will receive family and friends following the service at the home of David and Kelly Cox. Lunelle, the last surviving child of the ten children of Charles Lester Reeves and Mary Lucinda Carter Reeves, was born on the family farm near Jonesville, SC early on the morning of September 1, 1922. Lunelle was also the youngest granddaughter of the late Zachariah Reeves ("Grance"), who lived in the family home. She went to live in her Heavenly Home on Saturday, January 14, 2012, at White Oak Estates Nursing Center. In 1939, she was graduated from Jonesville High School as Valedictorian and later attended Limestone College's management training classes while employed at the Draper Corporation. She was employed for many years at various hospitals in several states, including Pardee Hospital in Hendersonville, NC; Richmond Memorial in Richmond, VA; Methodist Hospital in Memphis, TN; and later served many years at Mary Black Hospital and Spartanburg Regional Medical Center in Spartanburg. Lunelle loved working with pre-school children, and for many years was the superintendent of the kindergarten department of the First Baptist Church in Hendersonville, NC and at Fernwood Baptist Church in Spartanburg. During her youth she was church pianist at the family's home church, Gilead Baptist Church near Jonesville, SC. Lunelle was married to the late John Woodbury Cox, the father of their three children, from 1944 until his death in 1967. In 1986, she married the Reverend Heyward Comer, who died in 2002, after serving 32 years as pastor of Drayton Baptist Church. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Mrs. Overa (Ellis) Page, Mrs. Myrtle (Pierce) Morris, Mrs. Louise (Lewis) Evans, and Mrs. Lois (Ernest) Jones; and five brothers, Charles Lester Reeves, Jr., John B. Reeves, William Carter Reeves, Zack Reeves, and J. Manley Reeves. Surviving are a son, Dr. David W. Cox and his wife, Kelly; two daughters, Nancy Cox Wooters and her husband Tom, and Dr. Janet Leslie Cox Orion; three grandsons, Scott Cox, Phillip Cox, and Dr. Tom Wooters; four granddaughters, Allison Wooters (Matt) Spell, Kellyn Cox, Leslie Cox, and Luci Cox; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Irene (Zach) Reeves of Spartanburg and Mrs. Jean (Phil) Cox of Indianapolis, IN, and 26 nieces and nephews, to whom she was affectionately known as "Tootsie." The family is at the home of David and Kelly Cox, 743 Sterling Drive, Boiling Springs.
