Lucille Harvey Mitchell, 89, died Saturday, January 8, 2011, at White Oak Estates Nursing Home. Born July 28, 1921, in Spartanburg County, she was a daughter of the late Joseph C. and Corrie Cathcart Harvey, the last surviving member of her immediate family, and the widow of John Ephram Mitchell. Mrs. Mitchell was a retail buyer for J. B. White Department Store in Columbia and was affiliated with Mascot Homes. She was a volunteer in many community activities. Survivors include her nephew, Marvin Harvey, nieces, Shirley Potter and Kathy Bishop, and great-niece, Carole DeValle, all who were also her caregivers; other nieces and nephews; other great nieces and nephews; and a special, life-long friend, Jean Hardigree. She was predeceased by her sisters, Lola H. Edge, Lillie Bell Simmons, and Pauline Blanton, and her brothers, William E., Woodrow, Albert, and Faber Harvey. Visitation will be 1:00-1:45 p.m. Wednesday, January 12, 2011, at Nazareth Presbyterian Church. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the church, conducted by the Rev. Roye Lynn Kulick. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
