Lucille Humphries

Lucille Caldwell Humphries, 88, of Spartanburg died Monday, November 22, 2010 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born January 4, 1922 in Campobello, she was the daughter of the late James L. and Viddie Stewart Caldwell and wife of the late Charles H. Humphries, Jr. After graduating from Asheville Teacher's College now Warren Wilson College in Asheville, NC, Mrs. Humphries taught school for many years in Spartanburg County Schools. She ended her teaching career teaching at Pine Street and Jesse Boyd Elementary Schools in District 7. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, the Women's Circle Group, and the Delta Kappa Gamma Society. Survivors include two sons, Charles (Sara) Humphries of Waxhaw, NC and Thomas (Debbe) Humphries of Spartanburg; a daughter, Nancy H. (Billy) Hardy of Spartanburg; five grandchildren, Brian (Heather) Humphries of Boiling Springs, Allen (Robin) Humphries of Midland, NC, Beth H. (Brian) Taylor of Spartanburg, Janie Humphries of Spartanburg, and Anna Hardy of Spartanburg; three great-grandchildren, Austin Humphries of Midland, NC, Joel and Ruth Ann Humphries of Boiling Springs; and two sisters, Kathleen Hall of Spartanburg and Ina Wyman of Murray, Utah. She was predeceased by four brothers and seven sisters. Visitation will be 9:45-10:45 a.m. Saturday, November 27, 2010 in the Parlor of the First Presbyterian Church of Spartanburg. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Dr. William L. Arthur. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Brian Humphries, Allen Humphries, Brian Taylor, Claude Humphries, Billy Hardy, Ron Caldwell, and Don Caldwell. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Charles H. Humphries, Jr. Scholarship Fund, c/o Spartanburg County Foundation, 424 East Kennedy Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302; or to Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, 686 Jeff Davis Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
