Lucille McDowell Gossett, 91, formerly of Sunset Street, Spartanburg, died Sunday, October 17, 2010 at White Oak Estates. Born December 5, 1918 in Spartanburg, SC, she was the daughter of the late Judson Sloan and Malissie Burnett McDowell and wife of the late William Andrew Gossett. She retired from Spartan Mills after 25 years of service and also from Spartanburg Eye Clinic after a number of years. She was a member of Skylyn United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Autumn Leaves and the 3 R's at Drayton Baptist Church. Survivors include two daughters, Margaret Gossett Bailey and friend Jack Moss of Pacolet and Carolyn Gossett Dillard and husband Gerald of Pauline; a son, Roy Russell Gossett and wife Ellen of Cross Anchor; a sister, Betty M. Powell of Florida; six grandchildren, David Andrew Bailey and wife Brenda of Pacolet, Diane Bailey Alley and husband Wayne of Spartanburg, Desdamona Dillard White and husband Forrest of Richmond, VA, Michael Andrew Gossett and wife Becky of Cross Anchor, Cassandra Dillard Bogan and husband Andy of Jonesville, and Stefanie Gossett Kirby and husband Jeff of Lyman; great-grandchildren, Benjie Bailey and wife Anna of Kershaw, Ashley Hartwell and Taylor Bailey of Pacolet, Chris Alley and Kaycie Alley of Spartanburg, Hayden Kirby and Tanner Kirby of Lyman, Haley White, Austin White, and Kerrigan White of Richmond, VA, and John Bogan of Jonesville; great-great-grandchildren, Olivia Johnson and Spencer Bailey of Kershaw; and a very special dear friend, Bessie Christopher of Drayton. She was predeceased by a son-in-law, Alfred Eugene Bailey; a grandson, Russell Reid Bailey; and three sisters and five brothers. Graveside services will be held at 4:00 PM on Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at Sunset Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. James B. Carter and the Rev. Kelly Gallamore. Visitation will follow the service at the graveside. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Skylyn United Methodist Church, 1415 Skylyn Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29307; or to a charity of one's choice. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff at White Oak Estates and the nurses and staff at Hospice Care of South Carolina for their loving care and support.
