Lt. Colonel Charles Edward Nix, 87, of 150 Nix Hamlet Drive died Saturday, March 12, 2011 at his home. Born May 23, 1923 in Spartanburg, he was the son of the late George Washington and Stella Nix. Lt. Colonel Nix was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He patriotically served his country from 1945 until his retirement in 1969. He fought in WWII, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. He earned and was awarded three Bronze Stars, the Army Commendation Medal, the Air medal, two Legions of Merit, the Armed Forces Honor Medal First Class from the Republic of Vietnam, the Army Commendation medal, the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Medic Badge, the American Campaign Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal with Dvc 605. Survivors include three sons, Charles Daniel Nix, Michael Dean Nix, and Gary Edward Nix; seven grandchildren, Leah Wynn, Shane Nix, Jonathan Nix, Andrew Nix, Thomas Nix, Christopher Nix, and Brandon Nix; and five great-grandchildren. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Sunday, March 13, 2011 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral Services will be at 2:00 PM on Monday, March 14, 2011 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Andy Case. Burial will be in Greenlawn memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Interim Healthcare Hospice, 155 Deacon Tiller Court, Duncan, SC 29334 or to Mobile Meals Services, PO Box 461, Spartanburg, SC 29304.
