In loving memory of Loyd "Dino" Kirby, a cherished member of the Spartanburg community, who sadly passed away on April 7, 2024. He was a devoted father, a successful entrepreneur, and a generous soul whose presence touched the lives of many.
Loyd, known affectionately as "Dino," was a visionary. As the owner of Kirby's Tree Service in Drayton and various establishments like Dino's, Army Navy, and The Little Rebel, he left an indelible mark on the local business landscape. His entrepreneurial spirit and unwavering commitment to his ventures earned him respect and admiration among peers and patrons alike.
Born on September 29, 1939, in Gaffney, South Carolina, Loyd discovered his passion for helping others early on. His altruistic nature shone through in all aspects of his life. Whether it was offering a lending hand or sharing a kind word, Loyd's generosity knew no bounds. He was always "In the Red" and everyone was "A Bird".
A graduate of Gaffney High School, Loyd always believed in living life to its fullest. He was a member of Peace Free Will Baptist Church in Spartanburg. He embraced every moment with enthusiasm and joy, leaving behind a legacy of love and positivity. His infectious spirit inspired those around him to see the beauty in everyday moments.
Loyd was not just a businessman; he was a family man at heart. Survived by his son Tyler Kirby (Austan), daughters Tracy Teal (Scott), Lisa Mathis (Jason), Dena Neely (Larry), brother Billie Short, sister Linda Thrift, 17 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren with one on the way, he cherished his family above all else. His love and wisdom will forever resonate in their hearts. He was preceded in death by his Mother Gertrude Short, Sister Connie Rice Short, and a brother Boyd Short.
With a heart as vast as his ambitions and a spirit as resilient as the trees he tended to with care, Loyd "Dino" Kirby will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Services to honor and celebrate Loyd's life will take place at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel in Spartanburg. A visitation will be held on April 13th from 11:30 AM to 12:45 PM followed by a Funeral Service at 1:00 PM. The burial will then take place at Sunset Memorial Park at 2:00 PM.
