Louise Seay Keesler, 86, entered into eternal life on October 28, 2022 at White Oak at North Grove in Spartanburg. She was the daughter of the late Lula Bailey Seay and Cullie Earl Seay. She married the love of her life, James M. Keesler, on the night of their Senior Prom in 1954 and they remained married more than 62 years. She graduated from Spartanburg High School and attended the University of South Carolina. They enjoyed traveling and ballroom dancing.
In addition to being a beloved wife, mother, and family care-taker, Mrs. Keesler had careers as a bank teller, travel agent, and insurance agent. She was a “Jeopardy” enthusiast and an avid reader, often reading three books per week, especially mysteries and British history. She was an active member of Spartanburg First Baptist Church, assisting her husband as a Sunday School teacher and Deacon, the Fellowship Sunday School class, serving as a chaperone and “choir mom” for the youth choir, and frequently assisted with church offerings. In her senior years, she greatly enjoyed participating in Young At Heart activities. She planned reunions for the Spartanburg High School Class of ’54 for many years. She maintained life-long friendships with classmates from Kindergarten and had frequent luncheons as long as they were able.
She was a proud and enthusiastic supporter of their two children, James M. Keesler, Jr. “Rusty” and Gregory Dean Keesler. She ensured that they got to their piano lessons, choir rehearsals, theatre rehearsals, sports practices, and rarely missed a game or performance. Because she valued education, she made great sacrifices to ensure that her sons made it through college, Converse and Furman, respectively.
Mrs. Keesler was predeceased by her parents, an infant brother, her brother, Earl Bailey Seay, and her husband of 62 years, Jim. She is survived by her two sons, Rusty and Greg, adopted grandson, Cody K. Barra of Missoula, Montana, sister-in-law Dorothy Seay of Greenville, NC, brother-in-law Robert Warren Keesler and wife, Carol Teeter-Keesler of Miami, FL., two nephews, Kent and Stan Seay, and a niece, Madison Keesler.
