Louise Rankin

Louise Gaston Rankin, 100, of Greenville, SC, formerly of Lutherville, MD died Sunday, April 5, 2015, at Rolling Green Village-Greenville, SC. Born December 14, 1914, in Reidville, SC, she was the daughter of the late Robert White Gaston and Belie Wofford Gaston, and the widow of Edgar Frederick Rankin. Mrs. Rankin received her education at Winthrop College (Class of 1938), University of Maryland, and Johns Hopkins University. For 29 years she served on the staff of the Baltimore, MD Public School System, and in each of the following departments: Instructional, Supervisory, and Administrative. She retired a school principal. Mrs. Rankin was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Greenville, SC and while in Maryland a member of Towson Presbyterian Church, where she served as deacon. She held membership in The Huguenot Society of South Carolina; National Society Colonial Dames XVII Century; Nathanael Greene Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution; and Alpha Delta Kappa - International Honorary Society for Women Educators. Surviving are a grandson, Jason Lee Smith and his wife, Stephanie of Lutherville, MD; and son-in-law, Norman Lee Smith of Alexandria, VA. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Susan Smith. A memorial service will be conducted at 3:00 PM Saturday, April 11, 2015, at Rolling Green Village, 1 Hoke Smith Blvd., Greenville, SC 29615. Private burial will be in Nazareth Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
