Louise Meeks Carter, 84, of Spartanburg, died Sunday, February 3, 2013, at Mary Black Memorial Hospital. Born August 6, 1928, in Kannapolis, NC, she was the wife, for over 50 years, of the late Willard Oscar "Biggen" Carter and daughter of the late Ruben James and Marie Eddings Meeks. Mrs. Carter was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, an avid bridge player, a founding member of the Spartanburg Bridge League, and a life master in the American Contract Bridge League. Survivors include her sons, Jay Michael Carter (Kimberly) of Rock Hill, SC, David Bentley Carter (Elizabeth) of Spartanburg, SC, and Major William Todd Carter (Georgeann) of La Plata, MD; granddaughters, Jessie Michelle Hardee of Conway, SC, Taylor Mae Carter of La Plata, MD, and Emilee Claire Carter of Rock Hill, SC; grandsons, Michael Kyle Carter of Rock Hill, SC, Nathan James Carter of La Plata, MD, and Bentley Rollins Carter of Spartanburg, SC; and brother, Ruben Atlas Meeks of China Grove, NC. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a brother, James Edward Meeks. Visitation will be 1:00-2:45 PM Wednesday, February 6, 2013, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM, at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Ron Towery and Major William Todd Carter. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Upstate Bridge League, 325 Carolina Ext. (VFW), Roebuck, SC 29376. The family is at the home.
