Lottie Lawson Lancaster, 92, of Spartanburg, SC, died Friday, January 10, 2014, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. She was born October 25, 1921 to parents, the late John Thomas and Annie Mary Hyatt Lawson in Union County, SC. She was reared in the home of her relative, Mary Sue Keith, whom she loved as a sister. Lottie was married to William Ernest Lancaster on June 28, 1947, and they served together in many church and community capacities until his untimely death in 1981. Not having children of their own, they valued special relationships with several young couples from their active years. At the time of her death, Mrs. Lancaster was a member of the United Methodist Church of the Covenant of Spartanburg. She was active in the Margaret Wheatley Circle and the United Methodist Women as her health allowed. She was retired from Belk Hudson Company. Surviving is her sister, Mallie L. Smith of West Springs, SC; several beloved nieces and nephews; and a very special friend and neighbor, Sarah Guy. She was predeceased by her sister, Elizabeth L. Haney, and her husband Thomas; special sister-in-law, Alice L. Valentine; brother-in-law, Claude Smith; and several other in-laws in the Lancaster family. Visitation will be 1:00-1:45 PM Wednesday, January 15, 2014, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM, at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Arthur Holt and the Rev. Dan Blair, with a eulogy being delivered by her great-nephew Andrew Williams. Burial will be in Bogansville United Methodist Church Cemetery, 4052 Buffalo-West Springs Hwy, Jonesville, SC 29353. Pallbearers are Allen Smith, Mark Smith, Neil Valentine, Lanny Valentine, Brad Weaver, Greg Weaver, Darrell Splawn, and Phillip Keith. Honorary escort members are Danny & Gaye Broome, Sandy Splawn, Pharmacist Robert Brewer and wife, Dr. and Mrs. Thomas Westmoreland, and former neighbors on Hemlock Drive in Spartanburg.
