Lorena Gregory

Lorena H. Gregory, 92, was reunited with her husband, John, on Saturday, May 15, 2021, when she passed from this life into eternal life with Jesus. Born October 1, 1928 in Union, SC, she was the daughter of the late Wilkes Edward and Lillian Greene Hyder and the widow of John W. Gregory, Jr.

Lorena was retired from International Paper. She was a member of Philippi Baptist Church of Union, SC, where she was a Sunday School teacher and was a longtime member of Bethany Baptist Church in Spartanburg, SC, a member of the Red Hat Society, a Spartanburg Regional volunteer, and a resident of Eden Terrace for almost 10 years.

Lorena was a loving and supportive wife who took selfless care of her husband as he lived with his own health challenges at the end of his life. She was a most resourceful lady and she loved her family immensely.

Survivors include her children, Glynda Karabinos (Jerry) of Pauline, SC, John Gregory (Jennifer) of Taylors, SC, Betsy Stone (Bobby) Belmont, NC, grandchildren, Meredith Young (Michael), Allison Karabinos, Lindsay Gregory, Charlie Stone, Abigail Gregory, Wesley Gregory (Heather), great-granddaughter, Maggie Jo Young, her brother, Maurice Hyder of Union, SC, and her sister, Cornelia Owings of Union, SC. She was also predeceased by 10 brothers and sisters.

A graveside service will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, May 19, 2021 in Philippi Baptist Church Cemetery, 327 Philippi Church Road, Union, SC 29379, conducted by The Rev. Glenn Rusher, who was previously the Pastor at Bethany Baptist Church.

The family would like to give special thanks to Cindy Hughes and the gracious staff of Eden Terrace for their wonderful care to Lorena and to Interim Hospice staff who cared for her during her last week.
