Lorelei Foster

November 15, 1940 — May 8, 2012

Lorelei Cadwell Foster, 71, of Spartanburg, died Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born November 15, 1940, in Atmore, Alabama, she was the daughter of the late Lorrie and Willa Cadwell, and wife of the late Arthur Powe Foster, Jr. Lorelei's personality was as colorful as the gardens she grew, with a life as rich and textured as the paintings she created. She once commented that because life is short, each day should be lived to its fullest. And that she did. Lorelei was a master gardener, long-time member - and treasurer - of the Lady Slipper Club, a board member of Hatcher Gardens, and was actively involved in "Women's Giving," the Bodacious Book Club, the Tuesday Morning Art Class and the Altar Guild at The Episcopal Church of the Advent. In the past, she has been a captain of the Dixie Darlings of the University of Southern Mississippi, a basketball coach, belly-dancing instructor, a leader in both the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, and a teacher of both P. E. and English. In addition to Lorelei's dedication to society, friends, and family, she will be remembered for her vivacious and fun-loving spirit, which many had the pleasure of witnessing on the dance floor, within the home, where she loved to entertain, and in her daily demeanor. She will be painfully missed, yet always celebrated, by her family and numerous friends. Survivors include her sons, Joshua A. Foster, with wife Monica Foster, Carroll Foster, with wife Iwalani Foster; daughter, Rhetta Foster, with husband George Georgas; grandchildren, Melia, Copeland, and Harper Foster; brothers, Whitney Cadwell and Gene Paul Carroll; and sisters, Mellessi Antinarella and Gay Davis. Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00 PM Friday, May 11, 2012, at The Episcopal Church of the Advent, by the Rev. J. Edward Morris. Inurnment will follow in the Bell Tower Columbarium. Friends and family are invited back to Lorelei's house to celebrate her life and mourn her passing.
