Lloyd Israel

Lloyd George Israel, 87, of Spartanburg, died Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at his home. Born November 8, 1924, in Inman, SC, he was the son of the late Samuel B. and Ollie Bell Israel. Mr. Israel was a veteran of the 8th Army Air Corps and a military policeman. He retired, with over 40 year's service, as the owner-operator of Israel's Service Station. A member of Ben Avon Baptist Church, the Men for God Sunday School Class, and church groundskeeper, he was also a former trainer with the Spartanburg Peaches baseball team, and a member of the Spartanburg Gun Club. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Gwen Hill Israel; daughter, Sandra Grubbs and husband Don of Roebuck, SC; sons, Glenn Israel and wife Margie of Matthews, NC, and Larry Israel and wife Sarah of Spartanburg; six grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and sister, Ann Shanklin of Charlotte, NC. Visitation will be 2:00-3:30 PM Saturday, April 21, 2012, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 4:00 PM, in the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Richard King. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Ben Avon Baptist Church Building Fund, 2437 Wallace Avenue, Spartanburg, SC 29302; or Tidewater Hospice, 531 E.
