Lisa Barbee Switzer

April 28, 1954 — July 18, 2023

Pauline, SC

Lisa Barbee Switzer, 69, of Pauline, SC, went to be with Jesus on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, after a brief illness. She was the daughter of the late Leo Warren Barbee Sr. and Virginia Whitley Barbee.

Lisa was born April 28, 1954, in Albemarle, NC, and raised in Oakboro, NC. She graduated from West Stanley High School in 1972.

She was a beloved wife, mother, and Grammy. She married Liner “Ray” Switzer, of Spartanburg, SC in 1975 and together, throughout 48 years of marriage, they built a wonderful life and legacy for their family. Her legacy will remain one of faith and family for future generations.

Left to cherish her memories, in addition to her husband are, daughter, Jennifer Switzer Knight and her husband Michael; and son, Matthew Ryan Switzer (Taylor). Her greatest treasure was being Grammy to Jackson, Michaelyn, Peyton, Marly and Harper. In addition to her immediate family, she is also survived by brother, Leo Warren Barbee Jr. “Buddy” and his wife Karen, and sister, Lana Barbee Curlee, and her husband, Forrest. She is also survived by extended Switzer and Barbee family members and many friends.

Lisa retired from Wofford College in 2014 to pursue her true calling…being Grammy! Her dedication, gifts and abilities as a wife, mother, and Grammy will always be treasured by those she loved most.

She was a current member of Southside Baptist Church in Spartanburg, SC, and a former longtime member of Philadelphia Baptist Church in Pauline, SC. Throughout the years, so many have been blessed by her service in Christian love.

Lisa loved Jesus and her family (and fur babies) with all her heart and that was evident in everything she did. She believed that Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life and she spent much time in prayer for her family and friends. She set a beautiful and lasting example of what it means to be a Proverbs 31 wife and mother.

A private burial will be held at Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery, and a Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Southside Baptist Church, 316 S. Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306.

“She is worth far more than rubies. Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life.” (vs. 10 – 12)

“She is clothed in strength and dignity; she can laugh without fear at the future.” (vs. 25)

“Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her:  Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.” (vs. 28 – 29)

“Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is worthy to be praised. Honor her for all that her hands have done.” (vs. 30 – 31)
