Linda Varner Pickel

Linda Varner Pickel, 79, left this life peacefully in the early morning of November 10, 2023, at her home in Taylors, SC. She was born August 20, 1944, in Spartanburg County, daughter of the late John Taylor, Jr. and Sara Quinn Varner. She was married to her husband of 35 years, William Pickel, who claims her as the love of his life. 

A free spirit who lived with gratitude in the moment, she leaves behind a legacy of kindness and generosity and family and friends who will remember her laughter, reassuring words, and comforting presence. Energetic and hard-working, she spread compassion and healing as a dedicated nurse for Mary Black, Greenville, and Prisma Hospital Systems for almost 50 years. 

She found comfort and solace in her relationship with God and was a member of Earle Street Baptist Church. She enjoyed fellowship and community service as a member and past president of the Poinsett Women’s Club.

She is survived by her son, Michael David Trammell (Janna), step-son BJ Pickel (Kris), and step-daughter Toni Dietrich; grandchildren, Elizabeth Kelly Trammell Pope (Dusty), David Trammell, Kennedy Pickel, and Justin Radford; great grandchildren, Janette Pope and Hampton Pope; her brother John Taylor Varner III (Pat); niece Elizabeth Varner Broadwell (Charles); grandniece Ellie Broadwell.

Family will receive friends  Wednesday, November 15, 2023  from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.

Funeral Service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. 

Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307.  Service will be conducted by The Rev. Stephen Clyborne.
