Lillian Mahon

Lillian Harrison Mahon, 88, died Sunday, January 9, 2011. A native of Simpsonville, SC, she was the daughter of the late James Robert and Marguerite Austin Harrison. She was an honor graduate, and member of the Beta Club, in the 1939 class of Simpsonville High School, and was named an honorary member of the Clemson College class of 1944. Prior to relocating to Spartanburg with her husband in 1951, she was an accountant and later a partner with the Alester G. Furman Company in Greenville. A member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Spartanburg since 1951, she proudly served on the Administrative Board, was past President of the United Methodist Women, a Delegate to the United Methodist Conference, Wedding Director, and founder and teacher of the Bible Study Sunday School class. At the time of her death, she was a member of the John Nicholson Sunday School class. Mrs. Mahon was a charter member and former president of the Cherry Laurel Garden Club. She was also a member of the Quadrille Dance Club and The Piedmont Club. She is survived by her devoted husband of 59 years, Frank Weston Mahon, Jr.; a daughter, Melanie M. Eckles and her husband, Tom of Spartanburg; a son, Frank Weston Mahon, III and his wife, Ronnah of Florence, SC; two grandsons, Thomas Austin Eckles of Greenville, SC and Frank Weston Mahon, IV of Florence,; three granddaughters, Ashley Eckles Donley and her husband, Jonathan of Columbia, SC, Meredith Brooke Mahon of Florence, and Mary Allison Eckles of Columbia; two sisters, Mrs. Frank Simpson (June) Leake of Fountain Inn, SC and Mrs. Bobby Joe (Sara Anne) Collins of Greenville, SC. She was predeceased by a brother, James Robert Harrison and a sister, Mrs. Fred Miller (Miriam) Murff. The family will welcome friends from 10-10:45 a.m. on Friday, January 14, 2011, in the Fellowship Hall at Trinity United Methodist Church. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the church sanctuary, conducted by the Reverend A. Mickey Fisher, the Reverend Dr. Steve A. Holler and the Reverend Heather Humphries. Burial will be in the Harrison Family Cemetery, Simpsonville, SC. Members of the John Nicholson Sunday School Class will serve as Honorary Escort. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, P. O. Drawer 2909, Spartanburg, SC 29304.
