Lila Maude Powell Suddeth, 97, of Chesnee, SC, died Monday, April 3, 2017, at Spartanburg Medical Center. Born February 4, 1920 in Rainbow Lake, she was the daughter of the late Bookter Powell and Laura Ophelia Hightower Powell, and widow of Jefferson Dean Suddeth to whom she was married for 36 years. Mrs. Suddeth was a 1937 graduate of Boiling Springs High School and retired from Milliken Research in 1985. She was a wedding director, enjoyed flower arranging, was organized and detailed oriented, a true independent woman. Survivors include her daughter, Bettye Suddeth Easler; grandchildren, Robert W. Easler (Jennifer), Philip S. Easler (Kaprice)and Karen E. Brock; great-grandchildren, Rebecca, Kaitlyn, Tommy, Richard, Brennon, and Daniel; sisters, Minnie Lee Ravan of Inman, SC and Ila Pace of Tryon, NC. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by sisters, Ida Mae Powell, Madge Reid, and Janie Allien Hunt; brothers, J. Milton Powell, Hilton B. Powell, Charles W. Powell, and J. Floyd Powell; grandson-in-law, Craig Brock; and son-in-law, Wayne Easler. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:15 PM Saturday, April 8, 2017, at Cherokee Springs Baptist Church, with services following at 2:30 PM in the Sanctuary conducted by the Rev. Dr. Dwight M. Easler Jr. Burial will be in Cherokee Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mobile Meals Service, PO Box 461, Spartanburg, SC 29304 or Cherokee Springs Baptist Church, 2699 Chesnee Hwy., Spartanburg, SC 29307.
