Lewis Foster Sr.

May 18, 1935 — August 28, 2020

Lewis Jolly Foster 85, a 43 year resident of Boiling Springs, SC, passed away Friday, August 28, 2020, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice House. Born May 18, 1935 in Union, SC, he was the son of the late Ben Lawson Foster and Essie May Blume. Lewis attended Norway High School, Norway SC. After marrying and relocating to Spartanburg, he worked and retired after 20 years from Harley Bag Company. He started a new career as a Quality & Reliability Technician Inspector at Michelin Tire Corporation. After 20 years, he retired to help care for his father in law, Lovis Nettles, until his passing. Lewis will be remembered as a true southern gentleman, who loved his wife beyond measure, and devoted his life to his family. His character exuded nothing less than a loving, hardworking husband, and father, who strived each day to make a better life for his family. Honesty, integrity, and genuineness describes the dad who taught us to treat others as we would want to be treated and to always do the right thing! He held his wife, Alice, in high regard and made sure that she always knew that she was the same girl whose heart he stole while she was on a date with another suitor! He was a very "hands-on" dad and always took the time to be with his children. He was the dad that took us fishing or swimming in the closest lake. He taught us to skate and played softball with us and all the neighborhood kids. He was a smart man, who could fix literally anything. Having experienced a simple life of being raised on a farm, he found so much pleasure in travelling and seeing the world, with trips to Hawaii & Mexico as some of his favorites. He spoke to everyone and never met a stranger. His fun, "cut up" demeanor was infectious and everyone loved him. He loved to sing and sounded oddly like Conway Twitty, and when he was younger he had the hairstyle, too! He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and had the privilege to know and love his great-grandchildren as well. He was a true supporter of their participation in volleyball, baseball, chorus, orchestra, basketball, taekwondo, dance, band, and academic achievement. He was a happy person and truly had a zest for life. He forever wanted to return to work at Michelin Tire Corporation, even after retiring. He loved working and enjoyed socializing with his fellow workers. He worked hard and he played hard. He undoubtedly is overjoyed to be reunited in Heaven with the love of his life, his wife, Alice. He will be terribly missed, although he will live in our hearts and memories forever. Survivors include his children, Renee Foster Chaback (Chris) of Tallahassee, FL, Terry F. Bohanon and Lewis J. Foster Jr. (Lynn) all of Boiling Springs, SC; grandchildren, Miranda Collins (Sam), Lindsay Smith (Michael) all of Inman, SC, Jayme Knight (Casey), Katie Banks all of Boiling Springs, SC, Sarah Bryan (Michael) of Chesnee, SC and Sari-Grace Chaback of Tallahassee, FL; 13 great-grandchildren; brothers, Frank Foster (Ernie) and Edward Foster (Connie), both of Campobello, SC. He leaves many friends in both Spartanburg, SC and Tallahassee, Fl, who knew and loved him well. Additionally, he leaves behind his beloved little Mini-Pinscher, Isabella, known to him as Bubba. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by the following siblings: Bert (Buck) Foster of Springdale, AR, Margaret Hutto of Norway, SC, Susie Johnson, Mary Hughes, Lucille Keejan, John (Ben) Foster, Fred Foster, and States Wright Foster all of Orangeburg, SC.
