Leslie Duncan Nicholas

December 11, 1963 — May 5, 2023

Spartanburg

Leslie “Duncan” Nicholas, age 60, of Spartanburg and formerly of Alabama, died on Friday, May 5, 2023.  Duncan was a son to the late Leslie “Bud” Nicholas and Loretta Nelson of Alabama.

He moved to Spartanburg to be closer to family and was employed by The J. F. Floyd Cemeteries as a grave technician.  Before that, Duncan worked as a carpenter and loved working with wood.  He was one of the hardest workers you ever met. As a father, he was always entertaining his family by making them laugh when they were together.  His family and co-workers remember Duncan as a man who always meant well, he had a good heart and laughed a lot.  He was independent and very strong.  Many years ago, Duncan fell off a building he was working on and crushed both of his ankles and was told by doctors “he would never walk again, and in two years, he was running.”  Duncan was a devoted grandfather and loved being with his grandchildren.

In addition to his mother, Loretta, Duncan is also survived by his children, Kevin L. Nicholas of Calera, Alabama, Kory L. Nicholas and his wife, Kimberly of Alabaster, Alabama, Cody D. Nicholas of Spartanburg, South Carolina, and Kiley M. Nicholas of Woodruff, South Carolina: six grandchildren, Jason & Zachary Roubdioux, Paxton Hyder, Derek and Elijah Nicholas, and Montgomery Crew Fazzone: Siblings, Geraldine “Jerri”, Mark, Benjamin, and Christine.  He was predeceased by his sister, Shannon and his brother, Brian.

The family will hold a private scattering of Duncan’s ashes in Alabama at his favorite lake.
