Leroy Bryson "Pee Wee" Hyatt, 78, of 540 Barnwell Road, died Monday, September 28, 2009, at his home. Born February 19, 1931, in Spartanburg County, SC, he was the son of the late Roy Bryson and Ruth Wilkie Hyatt. A graduate of Roebuck High School, he was the former owner of Palmetto Sign until 1995 and later worked for Porter's Electric Motor Service for seven years. He was a member of First Baptist Church North Spartanburg, a former President of the Breakfast Optimist Club and former Governor of SC Optimist Clubs, Board member of the Salvation Army, Commissioner for Whitney Fire Department, and a 30 year Veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp, having served in the Korean War. Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Joyce Hightower Hyatt; a daughter, Cheryle McKee Porter and her husband Philip of Spartanburg; two sons, Kenneth L. McKee and his wife Kathy of Waxhaw, NC, and Colonel Edward B. McKee of Seoul, Korea; three sisters, Lottie Johnston of Spartanburg, Mary Williams of Mauldin, and Betty Hendrix and her husband Bobby of Lilburn, GA; a brother, Charlie Carroll Hyatt of Jacksonville, FL; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Christopher Bryson Hyatt; and a daughter, Phyllis Hyatt. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 30, 2009, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 1, 2009, at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Dr. Michael S. Hamlet.
