Leon Arthur

April 11, 1917 — March 11, 2017

E. Leon "Hun" Arthur, died one month shy of being 100 years young. Born April 11, 1917, in Spartanburg, he was the son of the late Ernest Irvin and Lenora Hammett Arthur. He was the widower of Selina Gilbert Arthur, who were married for 61 years. Mr. Arthur was a combat veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Navy-Sea Bees. He witnessed a lot of changes, but one thing never changed, and that was his love for his family, community, church, and anyone he knew. He was young at heart, always on the go, and a pillar in the community. "Hun" had a servant's heart and was the definition of a living legend. He was a hunter, a gardener, a giver, a gentleman, and a blessing to us all. Leaving, only for now, a daughter, Sandra Cartee (Joe); sons, Terry Arthur (Joyce); John Arthur (Becky); grandchildren, Cindy Cartee; Joe L. Cartee II; Chris Arthur; and Shane Arthur; and great grandchildren, Hayden and Mason Arthur. He will be reuniting in heaven with a son, Lonnie Arthur; sister, Eunice Coggins; brothers, Frank Arthur and Clyde Arthur; his parents, and the love of his life, Selina. Visitation will be 4:00 - 7:00 PM, Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at Cannons Campground United Methodist Church, 3450 Cannons Campground Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307. A Celebration of Life will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 15, 2017 in the church sanctuary, conducted by the Rev. Joe Blackwelder, the Rev. Jim Johnston, and the Rev. Kenneth Bobo. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, he would love for you to contribute to the benevolent fund or the Food Pantry of Cannons Campground United Methodist Church. He loved to give to others, so if you would rather give money to a stranger on the street, and say this is for "Hun" that would be a fun idea too. The family will reminisce at his daughter's home.
