L. C. Martin, Jr. (Rocky & Papa to all), 82, of Spartanburg, SC, passed from the arms of his loving wife Wartha Martin to the arms of his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at 3:50 AM, at his home. Born December 15, 1931, in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late Ora George Martin and Katherine Woodruff Martin. He will be waiting for his wife, Wartha, as well as his two daughters, Lynn Nodine and her husband Chuck of Boiling Springs, SC, and Cheryl Snapp and her husband Tony of Chesnee, SC, as well as his son, Marshall Murph of Boiling Springs, SC, along with two sisters, Dorothy Hueble of Whitmire, SC, and Cleo Parham and her husband Bill of Duluth, AZ, and his brother, Donald Martin and his wife Kathy of Lakewood, CO. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; his dear friend Lonnie; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Martin received his Associates Degree from the University of Texas and was a man of great status to all he met. He served 20 years for our country in the U. S. Air Force for 17 years, a Korean War veteran, and then served in the U. S. Marines for 3 years. He retired from Hoechst Celanese after 22 years of service. He was a member of Cherokee Springs Baptist Church, the Welcoming and Greeter Committee, a Mason, a Shriner, and always loved helping others. Visitation will be 1:30-2:30 PM Saturday, November 15, 2014, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM, at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Bill Lark and eulogist Mr. Jed Dearybury. Burial with military rites by the U. S. Air Force Honor Team, will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, online at www.stjude.org; or a charity of one's choice. The family wishes to express thanks to Homestead Hospice caregiver, Robin, and the many friends and family members for their loving care.
