Larry Terrell

Larry Charles Terrell, 69, of Inman, SC, passed away peacefully at his Lake Bowen home on Wednesday, October 14, 2009, with his family by his side. Born July 18, 1940, in Attica, IN, he was the son of the late Charles and Ann Terrell and the husband of 50 years to Rita June Terrell. A graduate of Attica High School, Mr. Terrell attended Purdue University and held certificates for technical and leadership studies completed at Krannert Donnelley Management Seminar, Purdue University; Crosby Quality College, Winter Park, FL; and Greensboro Center for Leadership, Eckerd University. Mr. Terrell retired from R. R. Donnelley and Sons Company in 2004 after 45 years with the Company. He joined R. R. Donnelley in 1959 as a material handler in Crawfordsville, IN. One year later he transferred to Warsaw, IN, to begin an apprenticeship in the pressroom. In 1976, Mr. Terrell was named pressroom superintendent of Warsaw's East Plant pressroom. In 1979, he transferred to Spartanburg, SC, where he supervised the construction, installation, and initial start-up of five gravure presses at R. R. Donnelley's new Spartanburg plant. He was the Customer Service Manager for the Spartanburg Division where he was responsible for the Division's production planning, billing, quality, materials (paper, ink, by products), and customer service. He served on the corporate integration team following R. R. Donnelley's acquisition of Meredith Burda in 1990. During the Customer Care Micro Design Team TSA project in 2002, he was also added to the team as a senior advisor due to his broad and deep expertise in all facets of printing production. After retiring from R. R. Donnelley, Mr. Terrell worked with his son Tracey at Quality Chrysler Jeep Dodge in Greenwood, SC, where he was special projects manager. He was also an accomplished master gardener, an avid swimmer, and a road racer. He completed several Peachtree Road Races in Atlanta, Hair of the Dog 5k's in Spartanburg, Heart Trek 5k's in Atlanta, and Potawatomi Festival 10k's in Attica, IN. Mr. Terrell was chairman of the Spartanburg YMCA where he served on the board for many years. He was co-chairman of the Kosciusko County, IN, Cancer Society Fund Drive. He served six years as Cub Scout Master for Pack 3731 in Warsaw, IN. Mr. Terrell was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Spartanburg. Surviving in addition to his wife are four children, Jody Gable and her husband Andy Gable of Greenwood, SC, Todd Terrell and his wife Leslie Terrell of Gulfport, MS, Tracey Terrell and his wife Annie Terrell of Greenwood, SC, and Janel Holt and her husband Scott Holt of Gallatin, TN; eight grandchildren, Benjamin Gable, Ellen Bess Gable, Trey Gable, Christian Terrell, Ethan Terrell, Alexis Terrell, Zachary Holt, and Britton Schirra; and three sisters, Nancy Smith of Lafayette, IN, Margie Walker Doolen of Salem, IL, and Shirley Carlson of Woodland, CA. He was predeceased by two granddaughters. A prayer vigil will be held at 6:00 p.m. Friday, October 16, 2009, at Floyd's Boiling Springs Chapel conducted by the Rev. Hayden Vaverek and the Rev. Patrick Winslow, with visitation to follow until 9:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday, October 18, 2009, at Maus Funeral Home in Attica, IN. A Mass of Christian Burial, under the direction of Maus Funeral Home, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 19, 2009, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Attica, IN, conducted by the Rev. David Rasner and the Rev. Hayden Vaverek. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Attica, IN. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 154 Milestone Way, Greenville, SC 29615; or to the Spartanburg YMCA Building Fund, 266 South Pine Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
