Larry Craig Harmon passed away November 11, 2020 with his family by his side. Known to most as Craig, he was born in 1963 to Larry and Peggy Harmon. His sister, Kelly, was born shortly after. Those who grew up with him described him as smart, mischievous, and handsome. From Kindergarten upwards, Craig attended Spartanburg Day School. There he met his best friend Derrick Belue. During this time Craig discovered his love for tennis. After high school, Craig attended the University of South Carolina, where he played on the tennis team. He finished his undergraduate degree at Furman University as a history major, an interest he kept throughout his life. After graduation, Craig began his career developing commercial real estate with the help of his grandmother, Nan. Several years later Craig met Laura Bourgoyne, who became his wife. They remained married until his death, for 27 years. They had two children, Jackson and Rose, for whom he cared deeply. Craig was a man of many talents and interests. His hobbies included, among others, riding horses, scuba diving, sailing, playing polo, fly fishing, flying airplanes, traveling, learning German, gardening, watching films, and cooking. Craig also donated to several charities such as St. Jude and United Way as well as to Furman University and Spartanburg Day School. Craig was liked by all that met him and touched the lives of many people. Those close to him loved him very much and he will be deeply missed. His way of life can best be described by his favorite poem: "What is Success? To laugh often and much; To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; To appreciate beauty; To find the best in others; To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived; This is to have succeeded." -Ralph Waldo Emerson Memorials may be sent to St. Jude's Children's Hospital. The family is asking for stories and photos of Craig to be sent to them, to preserve the memory of him.
