L. Clyde Metcalf, 77, of Moore, SC, died Saturday, September 7, 2013, at the Spartanburg Hospital for Restorative Care. Born February 9, 1936, in Columbus, NC, he was the son of the late Howard B. and Alberta Burns Metcalf. He was a retired Director of Transportation and Public Safety for the SC School for the Deaf and Blind, held a SC State Constable Commission, was a former employee of the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Department, a member of Roebuck Masonic Lodge #357, and a member of Bethel United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Anne R. Metcalf; daughter, Tracy M. Herring (David) of Roebuck; grandchildren, Adam D. Herring, Esq. (fiancée, Lauren Richard) and Caitlin C. Herring, all of Atlanta, GA; brother, James L. Metcalf (Carolyn) of Spartanburg; sisters, Hazel M. Foster (Chuck) of Roebuck, SC, and Dorothy M. Settle (Larry) of Inman, SC; and a number of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 10:00-10:45 AM on Tuesday, September 10, 2013, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM, conducted by the Rev. David B. Smith, at the chapel. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307. Honorary Escort will be the H. F. Chrietzburg Sunday School Class. Memorials may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church, 245 S. Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306 or to the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Department Benevolence Fund, P. O. Box 771, Spartanburg, SC 29304. The family is at their respective homes.
