Kenneth Barnette

Kenneth Wayne Barnette, 72, of Reidville, SC died Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born November 3, 1944 in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late Paul and Margaret J. Clarke Barnette. An alumna of Spartanburg High School, Mr. Barnette graduated from Wofford College in 1967 and attended Auburn University. He was retired after 31 years of service as a S.C. Vocational Rehabilitation cardiac counselor and was a member of Impact Community Church in Duncan, SC. Wayne was a member of the celebrated gospel group the Barnette Brothers, a popular group who toured and performed throughout the southeast in the 1950s and 60s. He was also an avid and competitive tennis player. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Brenda Jo Goode Barnette of the home; sons, Kyle Wayne Barnette of Charleston, SC; and Kenneth Ashley Barnette of Burbank, CA; brothers, Larry Barnette of Duncan, SC; Jerry Barnette and Roger Barnette of Spartanburg, SC and Allen Barnette of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by a brother, Myron Barnette. Visitation will be 6:00 - 8:00 PM Monday, January 16, 2017 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. Graveside service will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 17, 2017 in Westwood Memorial Gardens, 6101 Reidville Road, Moore, SC 29369, conducted by the Rev. Dr. David Walker.
