Kathryne Byars

Kathryne Mason Byars, known as "Bee" to all who loved her, 96, of Spartanburg, SC, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 6, 2016, at Eden Terrace-Spartanburg. Born March 26, 1920, in Spartanburg County, SC, she was the daughter of the late Fletcher M. and Mattie George Mason and widow of Richard William Byars, Jr. Mrs. Byars was a graduate of Asheville Teacher's College in Asheville, NC. She retired from Pacolet Elementary School after a teaching career that spanned 39 years. She was a loving and giving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Mrs. Byars was a member of Pacolet Mills Baptist Church, the Annette Green Sunday School Class, and the Ladies Circle Group that provided meals as needed. Survivors include sons, Rick Byars (Debby) of Spartanburg, SC and Robert Byars (Cindy) of Pauline, SC; five grandchildren, Matthew Byars (Amanda), Heather Pace (Jason), Elizabeth Rogers (John), Melissa Byars Liston (Jordan), and Bobby Byars; and six great-grandchildren, Will Byars, Andrew Byars, Natalie Holbrooks, Elliott Rogers, Kate Rogers, and Amelia Pace. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by three sisters, Grace Champion, Floree Belue, and Doris Hughes; and a brother, William Mason. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday, November 8, 2016, at Pacolet Mills Baptist Church, 385 Stone St., Pacolet, SC 29372. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 9, 2016, at Pacolet Mills Baptist Church, by the Rev. Norman Band and the Rev. Jack Dodds. Burial will be in Pacolet Memorial Gardens, 141 Memorial Dr., Pacolet, SC 29372. Memorials may be made to Pacolet Mills Baptist Church Family Life Center, PO Box 660, Pacolet Mills, SC 29373.
