Kathleen Cox Pennington, 85, of 225 North Lanford Road, passed away on Friday, May 7, 2010, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born June 3, 1924, in Laurens, SC, she was the daughter of the late Marvin Glenn and Marie Jamieson Cox. Kathleen was the wife of the late Elbert W. Pennington who passed away August 2003. A graduate of Parker High School, she attended Columbia College and Draughns Business College. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, the Cema Chreitzburg Sunday School Class, and the United Methodist Women. She is survived by two sons, Dale Pennington and wife Debra of Spartanburg, and Jerry Pennington of Moore; a grandson, Tony Pennington and wife Ali of Spartanburg; granddaughters, Courtney Dobbins and husband Andrew of LaGrange, GA, Kirby Keller and husband Stephen, and Melissa Poole, all of Boiling Springs; step-granddaughter, Rachel Lusk of Spartanburg; two great-grandchildren, Reese Dobbins and Nathan Hyatt; a brother, Maurice G. Cox, Sr., and three nephews, Glenn, Will, and Robert Cox, all of Spartanburg. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 10, 2010, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. David B. Smith. Visitation will be 10:00-10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the graveside. In memory of Mrs. Pennington, memorials may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church, 245 South Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306; or to the charity of one's choice.
