Katherin Jones Smith, a compassionate and loving woman who dedicated her life to caring for others, has passed away at the age of 68. She was born on November 16, 1954, in Memphis Tennessee, and peacefully departed from this world after a long illness on September 28, 2023, in Spartanburg SC.
Katherin grew up in a nurturing household with her parents, Claude Oliver Jones and Connie Colleen Brown. She shared a special bond with her sisters Lisa and Susan who lived in the Anderson, SC area. Katherin pursued a fulfilling career as a registered nurse. She poured endless love and dedication into her work, ensuring the well-being of countless patients during her tenure. However, when she had a family of her own, Katherin made the heartfelt decision to leave her profession behind and embrace the role of a full-time caregiver for her loved ones.
Katherin had an adventurous spirit that led her to travel to many places alongside her beloved husband and son. Exploring new destinations together created memories that would forever be cherished. Additionally, they enjoyed attending events at the Peace Center, where they immersed themselves in various cultural experiences.
Those closest to Katherin knew she possessed an array of talents and interests. A skilled crafter with artistic flair, she enjoyed activities such as sewing and baking. Her creations were not only beautiful but also infused with love. Being a foodie at heart brought immense joy to Katherin's life as she relished exploring new flavors and culinary delights. She delighted in sharing these experiences with family and friends.
A lover of many types of romance and movies, Katherin frequently found solace in going to the cinema with her family. The bond they shared was deep-rooted and strengthened through shared laughter and tears during these cinematic adventures.
Amongst Katherin's collection of cherished possessions were numerous dolls, which she lovingly gathered over the years. Each doll represented a unique story and held a special place in her heart. Her collection was a testament to her joy in preserving memories. As long as her health allowed Katherin, she took great joy in supporting the Hot Air Balloon festivals around her, giving many hours of volunteerism to make the event beautiful and successful.
On this day, family and friends join together to honor Katherin's life and fondly remember the extraordinary woman she was. Services will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel located at 2075 E Main St, Spartanburg, SC 29307. A visitation will take place from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM, followed by a memorial service from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
Katherin leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion that will continue to inspire all who knew her. Her husband of 32 years, Stephen Smith, stood as her rock through the highs and lows of life Their bond transcended the trials they faced, serving as an example of unwavering devotion.
Katherin's son, Kenneth Smith brought boundless joy into her world. As mother and son navigated life together, their unbreakable connection grew stronger with each passing day. The memories they created will forever serve as a reminder of the love between a mother and her child.
In addition to Stephen and Kenneth, Katherin is survived by her brothers, Richard Jones (Mary Ellen), Connie Ray Jones, (Sue Ann), sisters, Susan Vaughn (Randall) and Lisa Cromer (Jack), and mother-in-law, Barbara Woolen. She held a special place in the hearts of her extended family of nieces and nephews and their families who were fortunate enough to experience her unconditional love.
Though Katherin's physical presence has departed from our lives, her spirit will forever remain within each cherished memory shared with those she held dear. May her soul find eternal peace as we bid our heartfelt farewell to a remarkable woman who touched so many lives with kindness and warmth.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Katherin's honor to The Shriners Children’s Hospital - 950 West Faris Rd. Greenville, South Carolina.
