Kate Ballanger

Kate Ridings Ballenger, 86 of 542 Houston Street, died Friday, December 3, 2010 at Spartanburg Regional Hospital. Born June 10, 1924 in Spartanburg, she was the daughter of the late Robert J. and Bessie Kiser Ridings and the wife of the late Jesse Crawford Ballenger. A 1942 graduate of Fairforest High School, she worked for Artex Cleaners. She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church where she was a longtime Sunday school teacher and choir member and a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Survivors include a son, Terry Dean Ridings and his wife Sandy of Spartanburg; a sister Pearl R. Swindle of Spartanburg; and three grandsons, Jeremy, Shane, and John Dean Ridings all of Spartanburg; six great-grand children, Braxton, Ethan, John Crawford, Lillian Kate Ridings and Natalie Beauvais. She was predeceased by six brothers; John, Ernest, Hollis, Boyd, Woodrow, and Claude Ridings, along with two sisters; Pauline R. Kirby and Marie R. Smith. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 6:00 -7:00 p.m. Monday, December 6, 2010, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 7:30 p.m. at the chapel conducted by Mr. Bud Brooks. The family is at their respective home.
