Julian Tunno, Sr.

Julian Leigh Tunno, Sr., 79, of Spartanburg, SC, passed away at his home on Thursday, March 22, 2018 after several years of declining health. A native of Spartanburg, Leigh was born December 22, 1938, to the late Julian Roswell Tunno and Emily Leigh Tunno. He was a product of the Spartanburg District 7 school system attending Pine Street School, Jenkins Junior High School, and Spartanburg High School. He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina with a BS Degree in Pharmacy. He was honored by his classmates by being elected president of his Senior Class (1961) in the College of Pharmacy. He was proud to be a registered pharmacist and was the owner-operator of The Medicine Shoppe on North Church Street for over 20 years. Leigh had many passionate interests including the LSU Tigers, the USC Gamecocks, the Boston Red Sox, gin rummy, football, puppy dogs, good barbeque, music of Bach and Chopin in particular and a ferocious love of history. He was the husband of Sarah Jo Rainey Tunno; father to Julian Leigh Tunno, Jr. (Paula), Meg Tunno Kee, and Oscar Ferebee Tunno; grandfather and Papou to Leigh Collins Tunno, Emily Elise Tunno, Jonathan Leigh Kee and Anastasia Margaret Kee. He was predeceased by his brother, William Miles Tunno. The family would like to thank Spartanburg Regional Home Hospice for their all-encompassing care and compassion with special appreciation to Lisa, Peggy, Courtney, Debbie, Rachel, Mechelle, Dee and Tiffany. Visitation will be 2:00-3:30 PM Sunday, March 25, 2018, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. At Leigh's request there will be no funeral services and anyone so inclined may make a memorial contribution to Mobile Meals Service, PO Box 461, Spartanburg, SC 29304; or the Spartanburg Humane Society, 150 Dexter Road, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
