Julian Layton

February 18, 1944 — June 29, 2010

Julian Boyd Layton, 66, of Pauline, past into our Savior's presence on June 29, 2010 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, after a time of failing health. Born February 18, 1944 in Roebuck, SC, he was the son of the late J. L. "Bill" Layton, Sr. and Ruth Gwinn Layton and the husband of the late Bonnie Delores Lawson Layton. He worked for South Carolina School Bus Shop and retired after 27 years of service for Norfork Southern Railroad. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Donna Layton Moates and husband Larry of Pauline; a son, Phillip Darriel Layton and wife Jo Ann of Pauline; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a brother, Douglas Layton and wife Ginny of Roebuck; sisters-in-law, Edna Layton and Doris Layton of Roebuck; brothers-in-law, Elvin Lawson and wife Sue, Walter Lawson, Richard Moore and wife Jewel all of Pauline, Wendell Lawson and wife Dianne of Gaffney; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Mansel and J. L. Layton, Jr.; sisters-in-law, Margarett Hatchell Lawson, Joyce Lawson Vise, Sarah Lawson, and Evelyn Lawson, all of Pauline; brothers-in-law, Weldon Lawson, John M. Lawson, Wayne C. Lawson, Donnie "Pete" Lawson, and Carol Vise, all of Pauline. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, July 1, 2010 at Friendship Baptist Church of Pauline, conducted by the Rev. Brian Harris. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the committal service in the church social hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Friendship Baptist Church, 830 Friendship Baptist Church Road, Pauline, Sc 29374. The family will be at the home.
