Julian Ray Barnette, 97, of Spartanburg, SC, died Sunday, May 16, 2021, at RoseCrest Retirement Community. Born February 5, 1924, in Landrum, SC, he was the son of the late James Matthew “Mac” and Jennie Ballew Barnette.
A U. S. Army Veteran, 77th Statue of Liberty Division, combat veteran of World War II, having served throughout The Pacific Theatre of Operations and involved in the disarming and occupation of Japan, Mr. Barnette was the retired founder/owner of Barnette Oil Company of Spartanburg. He was a member of Boiling Springs First Baptist Church and The Messenger Sunday School class.
Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Frances Pridmore Barnette; seven nieces and nephews, and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
Cryptside services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, May 19, 2021, at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Heritage Chapel Mausoleum, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307, conducted by The Rev. Bobby Lindsey. Visitation will be following the service at cryptside.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Boiling Springs First Baptist Church, 3600 Boiling Springs Road, Boiling Springs, SC 29316.
