Julia Burgess Kirby, 82, of Spartanburg, SC died Tuesday, April 30, 2024, in her home at Restoration Senior Living at Westgate. Born October 18, 1941, in Spartanburg County, she was the daughter of the late William and Evelyn Burgess.
Julia was retired as an Elementary Teacher with Spartanburg School District 7, having spent most of her career at Cleveland Elementary. She was a graduate of Winthrop University, earned her master’s degree from Converse College, and was a member of Morningside Baptist Church. She had an appreciation for all things beautiful, from music to flowers to art. She discovered a passion for abstract art in her later years and participated as a member of the Artists’ Guild Spartanburg.
Julia was predeceased by her loving husband, William Terry Kirby, Sr. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Todd and Melissa Kirby of Greenville; her grandson, Matthew Kirby, her granddaughter, Anna Kirby; her niece and nephew-in-law, Stephanie and Mark Rhodes of Waxhaw, NC; her great-nephew, Josh Rhodes; and many lifelong friends. Along with her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her brother, Leon Burgess.
Julia’s family would like to extend heartfelt appreciation to all her devoted caregivers with Restoration Senior Living at Westgate, as well as those from Agape Care who watched over her in her final months. They are grateful for the compassion you shared with Julia and your love that she takes with her.
